Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns is to visit Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia on October 16-20, Trend reports referring to the US ambassador to Azerbaijan, Matthew Bryza.
He will meet with government leaders and civil society representatives to discuss strategic and shared interests in the region, including regional peace and security, economic development, and democratic reform.
In September 2011, Burns met in the margins of the UN General Assembly with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
According to Bryza, Burns' visit to Baku will focus on democracy and human rights. Bryza did not specify the visit's details and subject of Burns's upcoming negotiations in Baku.
