Turkey wants to join SCO

Turkey has filed an official request to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Kommersant reports.


The US is only on the stage of informal consultations to join the organization. Russia and China managed to turn the SCO into a powerful economic organization. Mongolia, India, Pakistan and Iran are observers in the organization. Sri Lanka and Belarus are dialogue partners. The SCO is one of the largest Eurasian organizations.


The US is interested in the organization but has not filed a bid to become a dialogue partner yet.


The situation with Turkey is more clear. Its bid may be accepted at the SCO summit in Astana in June.
Some Middle Asian states. Uzbekistan is against US membership.
