Armenian president meets students at Moscow State University

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has met students at the Moscow State University named after Lomonosov. The meeting was held at the hall of the Science Council of the university. Victor Sadovnichy, head of the university, presented biography of Sargsyan and pointed the multi-vector political course of the president, NEWS.am reports.


Sadovnichy noted cooperation between the university and Armenian higher education centers, such as the Yerevan State University and the Russian-Armenian University. Over 800 Armenian students and post-graduates study at the Moscow State University. Over 300 Russian students and teachers study or work in Armenia.


Sadovnichy underlined the contribution of Radik Martirosyan, head of the Yerevan State University and President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, to scientific ties between Russia and Armenia, reminding those gathered of the 6th forum of CIS states for art and science.


President Sargsyan noted that Armenia has recently held a parade to mark the 20th anniversary of independence. Cooperation within the CSTO and armed forces will secure the state in case of tensions on Nagorno-Karabakh with Azerbaijan.


Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will meet Sargsyan and discuss bilateral ties and settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

A plan for consultations of Foreign Ministries for 2012-2013 will be signed. It includes negotiations of Armenian president and Russian vice-premier, heads of the Federation Council, Russian Parliament, Moscow Mayor’s Office.


Russia and Armenia had a trade turnover of $859.1 million in 2010, $487.7 million in January-July 2010, rising by 15.2%, compared with the same period in 2010. Forecasts say the turnover this year will exceed 2008’s $899.9 million.
