Azerbaijan hopes to succeed in elections to UN Security Council

Azerbaijan received 113 votes at the recent ballot in the elections of non-permanent UN Security Council members. The Foreign Ministry spokesman, Elman Abdullaev, said it shows the great support Azerbaijan has, 1news.az reports.

Abdullaev noted that Azerbaijan, in contrast to other countries, is running for the office for the first time and is looking forward to a successful outcome of the elections.

Azerbaijan and Slovenia are competing for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council. During the first nine rounds of voting none of the countries was able to gain the necessary two-thirds of votes to join the Security Council. Voting will continue on Monday, October 24, at UN headquarters in New York
