Iranian parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani has congratulated the Tunisian nation on the victory of the Islamic Ennahda Party in the country's first democratic elections, Press TV reports on Tuesday.
Larijani noted that the victory of the Islamic party reflected the enthusiasm of Tunisians for upholding Islamic principles in the North African country.
His comments come as early results from Tunisia's elections indicate that the North African country's Islamic party Ennahda (Renaissance) has claimed victory in nation's first free vote.
Tunisians went to the polls on Sunday to elect a 217-member Constituent Assembly from among more than 11,000 candidates. The elected members of the assembly will then appoint a new interim government and draft a new constitution.
