European Commission to issue second tranche for Azerbaijani energy development

The European Commission will issue the second tranche for Azerbaijan by the end of the year for energy development, spokesman for the European Commission Federico Berna said in Baku today, Trend reports.


Three million euros have been provided for the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Sources of Energy at the Azerbaijani Ministry for Industry and Energy.


Deputy head of the agency, Jamil Melikov, said that 14.6 million manats have already been provided from the budget. 1 million was provided last year.


Azerbaijan plans to launch a minor dam producing 1 MW. It will be built by May 2013. Over $700,000 was provided for construction, which is 30-50% of construction expenses, Melikov says.


UNDP Advisor Rodney Hacker said at the seminar in Baku that Azerbaijan may build 200 minor dams.
