EU to provide temporary accommodation for earthquake-struck population of Turkey

The EU and the Turkish Red Crescent signed an agreement on construction of 1,200 temporary houses for people left without homes after the earthquake in Van Province in south-east Turkey on October 23, the European Commission says.


The project will cost about 4 million euros. The Turkish Red Crescent will make the necessary purchases and assemblage. Accommodation will be provided in cooperation with a set of organizations, such as the government of Van Province and municipalities.


6,000 people will receive new houses, ech consisting of two rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom with a toilet. They will have water, electricity and sewers.
