Soldier from Saratov Region admits lying about being a slave in Dagestan

A soldier from the Saratov Region, who said he had spent 10 years as a slave at Dagestani brick factories, has admitted unpermitted absence from his base and requested a special order of the process, Interfax reports.


The Military Investigation section of the Investigative Committee of Russia said that the preliminary hearing of the case, initiated in December 2000, has ended. Soldier Andrey Popov left base 14460 on September 30, 2000. He was found in August 2011.


He said he had spent 10 years in slavery at brick factories in Kaspiysk. He returned home on August 18, 2011, and filed a case with the police.
