Baku is hosting the First International Festival of Puppet Theatres, organized by TURKSOY and the International Association of Puppet Theatres (UNIMA), apa.azreports.
The Azerbaijani State Puppet Theater of A. Shaiga held a press conference.
Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism Adalet Veliyev, President of the Turkish National Center UNIMA Movsut Ozkhan, UNIMA Vice-President Stanislav Dubrava, UNIMA Secretary General Jacques Trudeaux, Coordinator of the International Theatre Institute of the middle East Ibragim Assiri, Azerbaijani representative to TURKSOY Elchin Gafarly and Secretary General of the International Association of Theatre Critics Michelle Vice are taking part in the meeting.
Adalet Veliyev said that it is the first international festival of puppet theatres with the participation of Europe and the Middle East, organized by the state program “Azerbaijani Theatre in 2009-2019”, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijani independence. 166 guests from 16 states arrived for the festival, which includes 22 performances.
Elchin Gafarly proposed formation of a Union of Puppet Theatres as part of TURKSOY. He presented an honorary present to the UNIMA Secretary General Jacques Trudeaux.
Tickets have been sold since October 15.
The festival will be concluded on November 6.
