Erdogan says Germany let Turkey down

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Germany let Turkey down by avoiding support for its membership of the EU, Gazeta.ru reports.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Erdogan took part in marking the 50th anniversary of the deal on Turkish labour migrants in Berlin.

Merkel stated that she is against Turkish membership in the union as a fully-fledged member. Erdogan urged Turks living in Germany to remember their homeland. There are about 3 million Turks living in Germany.

The Turkish prime minister says Germany needs to do a lot more to support Turkey in its aspirations for EU membership. Merkel offered Turkey privileged partnership.
