The Armenian parliamentary speaker has recently resigned. The most favoured candidates to replace the official are not in a hurry to take the position, Aykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Times) reports.
The two most favoured candidates are Galust Saakyan, head of the Republican Party of Armenia, and David Arutyunyan, Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for State and Legal Affairs and head of the Armenian delegation to the PACE. They both refused to take the position.
The paper says Saakyan has formally declined. Arutyunyan says the position has not become vacant yet and he has absolutely no interest in taking it. He added that dissolution of parliament and off-year elections are not planned.
Thus, the most likely candidate to become the speaker is Samvel Nikoyan, the current Vice-Speaker of Parliament.
Armenia will hold parliamentary polls on May 6, 2012.
