Georgian foreign minister to arrive in Armenia

Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze will arrive in Armenia, RIA Novosti reports.

He will meet Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.

Vashadze’s previous visit was held in April 2011. At a press conference in Yerevan, Vashadze noted that Georgia should not interfere in Armenian affairs but may express its view on the Russian base in the state. Vashadze views it as a threat to Georgia.

An agreement on the base was signed in 1995 for 25 years. The document was prolonged to 2044. A protocol expands its geographic and strategic responsibility. The military base houses S-300 missile complexes, MiG-29 fighters and about 5,000 servicemen.

Armenian and Russian servicemen fulfil security together. Russia is to provide advanced arms and equipment for Armenia.
