Tbilisi describes progress in WTO talks with Russia as a Georgian diplomatic success

The press secretary of the Georgian president, Manana Mandzhgaladze, says that the results of the Georgian-Russian talks on Russia’s membership of the WTO is a success for Georgian diplomacy, Trend reports.


Georgia supports the Swiss proposals. Georgia will now receive full information on freighting on the Russian-Georgian border and other economic aspects.


Switzerland had developed the compromise solution, which Georgia accepted. The proposals involve monitoring of freighting on the land border between Russia and Georgia. Details on monitoring of air and naval freighting will be announced later.


Georgia has initialed the agreement and will sign it by November 10. The document will come into force as soon as Russia becomes a WTO member.
