The head of Iran's Interest Section in Egypt has vowed that Tehran-Cairo diplomatic ties will be normalised following the country's upcoming elections, Press TV reports on Tuesday.
In an interview with Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, Mojtaba Amani said "we expect that the two countries' relations will be normalized after the election in Egypt,"adding that the US had in the past impeded the resumption of diplomatic ties between the two great Muslim nations, Press TV cites the Fars news agency.
In 1979, Iran officially cut all ties with Egypt in response to the US-sponsored 1978 Camp David Accords, which established diplomatic relations between Egypt and Israel.
