'Dialogue best path to Syrian reforms' - Iranian ambasssador

Iran's Ambassador to Syria says Damascus is in need of constructive dialogue to introduce reforms in the country, but change is impossible under foreign pressure, Iranian news agency Press TV reports.

Addressing a gathering of Iranians in Damascus, Mohammad-Reza Raouf-Sheibani said on Tuesday that the path to reform is creating a suitable atmosphere for dialogue and Iran is ready to offer all its political resources to assist in this regard.

“Iran has frequently expressed readiness to share its experiences with Syria and to support any effort aimed at promoting national dialogue in Syria,” he said.

“The situation in Syria is sensitive and Iran is carefully and closely monitoring existing developments,” the Iranian diplomat added.

Raouf-Sheibani said Iran, Syria and resistance groups form the axis of resistance against Israel, adding that foreign intervention only aimed to break this axis.

He stressed that Iran would stand by Syria and that it supports President Bashar al-Assad's proposed reforms.

Criticizing a recent decision by the Arab League to suspend Syria's membership in the organization, the Iranian ambassador said that the decision would further complicate the situation.
