Iran is close to building its own nuclear arms, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said, ITAR-TASS reports.
The IAEA report reflects the position Iran currently takes. Tehran is striving for nuclear weapons. India, China and Pakistan have such equipment. If Iran builds its own weapons, the Middle East will turn into an absolutely different region. It would become impossible to prevent nuclear weapons from spreading to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt, the minister continues.
A new arms race will be inevitable in the Middle East. It is risky, taking into account the threats from nuclear arms in irresponsible hands. Barak added that Iran would probably attempt to attack Qatar and Bahrain. It would be a threat because the Persian Gulf fulfills 40% of the world demand for oil and gas.
Western states are calling for new economic sanctions against Iran. But they lack the political will needed for realization of their plans. They do not attempt to request the UN Security Council to take action, the Israeli minister said.
