Saudi Arabia presented a resolution project on terrorism under international protection for the 66th session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday. It was sponsored by the US. The project will be viewed as the 118 point of the assembly’s schedule, entitled “Counter-terrorist strategy of the UN”.
ITAR-TASS reports that the state confirms its views in fighting terrorism as a priority. The mission also speaks against the assassination attempt of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the USA.
The US informed the UN secretary general about an attempt to murder Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington Adil Al-Jubeir on October 12. US Justice Secretary Eric Holder said that the murder was to be carried out by Mansor Arbabsiar, a local from Iran naturalized in the US. He was arrested together with another native Golam Shakuri in New York on September 29. Arbabsiar was cooperating with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Shakuri – with Al-Kuds, an organization of the corps.
Iranian Representative to the UN Mohammad Hazai sent a letter to chairman of the UN GA, noting that the General Assembly cannot view every issue, according to the UN Charter.
Mohammad Javad Larijani, Secretary General of the Iranian Supreme Council for Human Rights, said on Wednesday that the assassination attempt had existed indeed, but was organized by the US to destabilize the region and cause a fear of Iran.
