The demand of the League of Arab League to stop the violence in Syria must concern both the authorities and the opposition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference with his Indian counterpart Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, RIA Novosti reports.
The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the situation in Syria resembles a civil war. In order to realize the initiative of the Arab League and those cooperating with the Syrian opposition need to make a call for peace talks.
Moscow supports the Arab League initiative to send observers to Syria and clarify information on the events.
The Arab League passed a three-day ultimatum to the Syrian government on November 16 to stop violence or economic sanctions would be passed. The Arab league demanded the government sign a protocol to permit several dozen international observers in to monitor the situation.
