Suspected murderer of Budanov turns out to be imposter

The suspected murderer of former Colonel Yuri Budanov, Yusup Temirkhanov, lied to the police, calling himself Magomed Suleimanov, Kommersant reports.

The police may have a chance to prove that Temirkhanov took vengeance for a relative killed in Chechnya.

Until recently the police could not determine the reasons for the murder of Budanov on June 10. The suspect arrested in August was calling himself Magomed Suleimanov and was refusing to cooperate. He is believed to have been hired for the murder.

The suspect was recognized by a woman he had lived with since 2000. She said she had married the man as Yusup Temirkhanov, not Suleimanov.

The police contacted Chechen law enforcers and found evidence of a revenge motive. A relative of Temirkhanov was supposedly killed by commander of the 160th tank regiment Budanov.
