Resolution on Syria introduced in UN General Assembly

Germany, France and the UK have introduced a resolution on human rights in Syria to the Third Committee (social, humanitarian and cultural issues) of the UN General Assembly. The US, Japan, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Qatar would want to be its co-authors, ITAR-TASS reports.

Voting will be held on Tuesday.

The project calls for the road map passed by the League of Arab States on November 2 to fulfilled. The plan includes withdrawal of military groups from cities, release of political prisoners, a halt to violence and the start of a dialogue between the Syrian authorities and opposition.

German representative to the UN Peter Wittig says that the resolution will show how isolated the regime of Assad is.

Russia and China used a veto in the voting for the resolution at the UN Security Council.
