Britain toughens sanctions against Iran

The UK government has introduced additional financial sanctions against Iran, aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran against the background of the deteriorating situation around the Iranian nuclear program, RIA Novosti reports cites the BBC.

The sanctions provide termination of all relationships between the financial and credit institutions of Great Britain and the banks of Iran, including the country's central bank, starting from 15:00 London time (19:00 GMT) on Monday.

This is the first time the UK has ceased relations with a banking sector of another state in this way.
