Iran summons Swiss envoy - 2

Iran's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Swiss ambassador to Tehran to protest a US-sponsored resolution passed by the UN against the Islamic Republic, Press TV reports on Wednesday.

The UN General Assembly on Friday approved a resolution on terrorism in which reference was made to an alleged plot by Iran to kill the Saudi envoy to Washington.

In a Wednesday meeting with Livia Leu Agosti, the Swiss envoy to Tehran, the deputy director-general of political and international affairs at Iran's Foreign Ministry said the "illegal" resolution served as a politically-motivated hostile measure which runs counter to the principles of international law.

The Iranian official also denounced the General Assembly's reference to the unsubstantiated assassination claims in passing the resolution as an innovation.

The deputy director-general further said America's failure to provide Tehran with information about the situation of the Iranian national allegedly involved in the assassination plot was against Washington's international obligations.
