Trilateral consortium will reduce prices for Russian gas – S. Tigipko

Formation of a trilateral gas consortium of Ukraine, Russia and the European Union would reduce prices for Russian gas in Ukraine, Sergey Tigipko, Vice-Premier and Minister for Social Policy, said, ITAR-TASS reports.

He believes that Ukraine would need to have at least a 50% share in such a union. The best version would be 25% for Europe, 25% for Russia and 50% for Ukraine. Tigipko expressed confidence that gas contracts of Russia and Ukraine signed in January 2009 would be reconsidered, the current gas price is unacceptable.

The official reported that, taking account current gas contracts, the price in 2012 would reach $485 per cubic meter.
