The ruling 'United Russia' political party nominated Prime Minister Vladimir Putin as presidential candidate on Sunday, the Moscow-based Ekho-Moskvy radio has recently reported.
The proposal was made by art director Stanislav Govorukhin at the party's congress, which is currently being held in Moscow.
Prime Minister Putin reportedly accepted the nomination. Incumbent President Dmitry Medvedev was also present at the Congress. Previously he agreed that Putin should run for the presidency and headed the ruling party's ticket.
