Georgia starts public discussions of constitutional amendments

Georgia has begunpublic discussions of constitutional amendments, Georgia Online reports.


The talks will be hosted by the US National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Society for Fair and Elections and Democracy (ISFED) to inform the society.


The first meeting will be held with NGOs at the parliament. Pavle Kublashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Issues, will take part.


According to the amendments, the elections of 2012 will see an increase of parliament members from 150 to 190.


The ISFED will have public parliamentary consultation in Gurjaani (December 2), Telavi (December 2), Dusheti (December 5), Akhaltsikhe (December 7), Rustavi (December 8) and Gori (December 8). The NDi will organize four meetings in Kutaisi(November 29), Batumi (November 30), Ozurgeti (30 November) and Zugdidi (December 1).


The process is supported by the American Agency for International Development and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Georgia.
