Russia took chairmanship of the UN Security Council today. Russia proposes discussions of the situations in Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Burundi and the Central African Republic, the Middle East, Cyprus, the Golan Heights and Iranian-Kuwait humanitarian issues.
The schedule for December 2011 includes talks on the UN regional center for preventive diplomacy in Middle Asia, functioning of the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, UN peacekeeping operations. Chairmen of sanction committees will make briefing reports for Iran, Liberia and Sudan. Auxiliary structures of the UN Security Council will have traditional sessions at the end of the year, RBC reports.
