Nursultan Nazarbayev becomes Kazakh People’s Hero

The Kazakh Senate passed amendments making President Nursultan Nazarbayev a People’s Hero today. Senators voted for amendments to the law on the Kazakh president and state awards unanimously, RIA Novosti reports.


First Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev is the founder of independent Kazakhstan, Justice Minister Rashid Tusupbekov said. The minister noted his status in the global arena, such as Kazakh's chairing of the OSCE in 2010. Tusupbekov said that sustainable development was achieved during the term of office of the first president.


Nazarbayev has been awarded with the status of the People’s Hero and the Golden Star and the Otan Order, the justice minister says.
