On December 4th Russians vote in parliamentary elections. The polls started in Russia's Far Eastern regions and are now in progress throughout the country.
Almost 700 international observes are monitoring the elections. International observers claim that there have been no violations as yet, RIA Novosti reports.
At the same time several independent news agencies report that their websites are facing DDoS attacks and are unavailable to users. Among them are the Ekho-Moskvy radio, The New Times magazine, the Bolshoy Gorod magazine and the Kommersant newspaper. The LiveJournal website is also facing DDoS attacks.
According to Alexey Venediktov, the editor-in-chief of the Ekho-Moskvy radio station, the attacks were launched in order to prevent the radio from reporting about violations at the polls. The editorial board is going to apply to the court, Venediktov says.
