Moldova wants reformation of the peacekeeping operation on the River Dniester into a civilian mission with an international mandate and conclusion of withdrawal of Russian forces from the territory, Yuri Lyanke, Vice-Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said at the OCSE Council of Foreign Ministers in Vilnius, RBC reports.
The official underlined that a final solution to the conflict must be based on the sovereignty and territorial unity of Moldova. He welcomed the 5+2 format (Russia, Ukraine as guarantors, OSCE – mediator, EU and US – observers, Kishinev and Tiraspol – sides of conflict). The Moldovan foreign minister noted the need for a vast program for development of the region, protection of human rights and enforcement of security.
Lyanke expressed regret that the ministerial declaration on renewal of the 5+2 talks failed. Although, he admitted that foreign states must avoid organization of elections on the Trans-Dniester area without approval of the Moldovan authorities.
