US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that a NATO missile defense system in Turkey won't threaten Russia and is intended to protect US allies from a possible Iranian attack, RIA Novosti reports.
"We have explained through multiple channels that our planned system will not and cannot threaten Russia's strategic deterrent," Secretary Clinton told reporters after her meeting with NATO counterparts and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
At the same time, the secretary of state underlined that Russia has no right to a veto. The missile defense system will be deployed anyway, she said.
