Azerbaijan has hosted talks on security with 110 representatives of NGOs, diplomatic missions and media in Brussels, APA reports.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov informed about the achievements of Azerbaijan in the last 20 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union, about activities in international affairs, the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, its attitude towards NATO and the European Union.
The minister noted that withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan by 2014 is unwise and added that chaos and internal conflict may resume. As an example, he reminded about the government of Najibullah after the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan.
The European Commission and Parliament asked questions about the economy and energy of Azerbaijan, its role in Europe’s energy security and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mammadyarov said that there is still hope for a peaceful solution to the conflict, as every soldier's life has a very high price.
