European Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammergerg calls upon the Russian authorities not to continue suppressing popular protests, the Euronews TV channel reports.
According to Mr. Hammerberg, Russia is breaking the European convention. "It's against the European convention to arrest and sentence to detention people, who take part in demonstrations," the official said.
Protests started in Russia after the Sunday parliamentray eleections condemned by OSCE and PACE observes as unfair.
