Azerbaijan was elected a member of the UNESCO Intergovernmental
Committee for the protection of cultural objects during armed conflict
for a period of 4 years.
As the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to UNESCO said to APA, the
election was held at the regular meeting of the states that have
acceded to the Hague Convention on Protection of cultural objects
during armed conflicts of 1954 and the 2nd Protocol of the Convention.
Along with Azerbaijan, this structure consists of Belgium, Holland,
Croatia, Japan and El Salvador.
It is noted that the successful election of Azerbaijan in a variety of
internal and intergovernmental bodies of UNESCO is a vivid example
demonstrating the political successes of the country in this
influential international organization.
The main objective of the intergovernmental committee, consisting of
12 members, is the implementation of the Convention and its 2nd
Protocol. The next meeting of the committee in the new composition
will take place on 14-16 December this year in the General Staff of
UNESCO in Paris.
