The US Senate has not ruled Matthew Bryza out as candidate for ambassador to Azerbaijan, deputy spokesman of the US State Department Mark Toner said, Trend reports.
US President Barack Obama appointed Matthew Bryza as an ambassador to Azerbaijan in December 2010. Before that, the US had no ambassador to the country for half a year.
The Senate is to approve the president’s appointment. However, the president is authorized to make appointments without approval when the Senate is on vacation.
The Senate is to make its decision by the end of the session (November-December 2011), otherwise the president’s appointment will be nullified. Bryza’s authority expires this month.
