US advisor secretary of state says Russia, USA are effective partners in settling Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

US Advisor Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Philip Gordon, said at the committee for foreign affairs of the Senate that Russia and the US are effective partners in coping with global challenges, Trend reports.

The US and Russia are co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, cooperating with France to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict started in 1988 as Armenia's claims for Azerbaijani territories. Armenia occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 ditricts, which is 20% of Azerbaijani territory. A cease-fire agreement was reached in May 1994. Russia, France and the US are fruitlessly trying to resolve the conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group. The UN passed 4 resolutions on withdrawal of Armenian forces from the region. But Armenia has not fulfilled them.
