The third channel of Iran has broadcast footage of a CIA spy, Amir Mirza Hekmati, arrested in Iran by the Ministry for National Security, Mehr reports.
The spy said that he entered service in the US army in 2001. He received training and was an undercover agent due to his knowledge of the Arabic and Persian languages. He was collecting information on Iraqi functionaries’ attitudes towards the US forces.
Hekmati said that he had received special training for the mission in Iran and access to information. He was taken to Iran through Afghanistan and the UAE. Hekmati added that Iranian security agents had uncovered a network of spies.
The Iranian Department for Public Relations of the Security Ministry said on Saturday that the spy had been captured in Iran. It noted that the US had big expectations from the spy.
