Constitutional amendments for Adjara passed in Georgia

The Georgian Parliament passed amendments to the Constitution in the first reading immediately. The president will now present candidates to head the government of the the Adjara Autonomous Republic, approved by the Cabinet, News Georgia reports.


A candidate to head the government is to be presented within 10 days after recognition of the new staff of the Supreme Council of the autonomy. Until introduction of a candidate, the president is to consult with all political subjects.


The amendment is to come into force after inauguration of a new Georgian president in two years time. Georgia will hold presidential polls in October 2013.
