Turkey has confirmed its support for recognition of Palestine, the press service of Turkish President Abdullah Gul said after his negotiations with the head of the Palestinian National Administration Mahmoud Abbas in Ankara, ITAR-TASS reports.
The sides discussed internal Palestinian peace, prospects of settling the Middle East conflict and the situation in the region.
Abbas met Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu earlier, stressing the international recognition of Palestine. Abbas reminded that the Palestinian flag was raised at the UNESCO headquarters on December 13. He also expressed willingness to see further mediation of the UN, the EU, Russia and the US in resolving the conflict. The UN bid is not an alternative to negotiations. The state is always open for talks and any proposals, Abbas says.
