The US considers Israeli settlements illegal, adding that it is a matter of discussions at the UN rather than between the Palestinians and the Israeli, spokeswoman of the US State Department Victoria Nuland said, RIA Novosti reports.
The US position in the UN Security Council blocked passing of a declaration on recognition of Israeli settling on Palestinian territories as illegal act. The UK, Germany, Portugal, and France spoke out against Israel. The Non-Aligned Movement, the Group of Arab States, the India-Brazil-South Africa organization share the view.
Nuland explained that the US is indeed against Israeli settlement but the UN declaration would prevent sides to start negotiations. Palestinians and Israelis must initiate a dialogue. The UN Security Council would not contribute much to the issue.
Commenting on a question of why the US believes that the UN Security Council should interfere in Syrian affairs, Nuland gave a short answer that all situations are different.
