Former Speaker of Parliament Yevgeny Shevchuk becomes head of Transnistria

Former Speaker of Parliament Yevgeny Shevchuk, leader of the Renewal Party, has become head of Transnistria, according to preliminary data, RIA Novosti reports.


Shevchuk became president in the second round of voting, receiving 73.88% of the vote, his opponent Speaker Anatoly Kaminsky got 19.67%. 4.45% of the population voted against all candidates.


The CEC will announce electoral results at 10 am. CEC head Peter Denisenko said that the final results will be announced in 3 days.


Anatoly Kaminsky admitted losing the campaign on the night of Sunday-Monday.


Transnistria held the first round of presidential polls on December 11, the second round was held on Sunday. None of the six candidates got over 50% of the vote in the first round.
