Georgian billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili gives up Russian citizenship

Georgian billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili has renounced his Russian citizenship, News Georgia reports.


Ivanishvili received the renunciation note from the Swiss embassy in Georgia on Monday. He filed the renunciation request on October 17. He is now a citizen of France.


The billionaire said in early October that he would like to form a political party and take part in parliamentary polls in 2012. He said that he will renounce his Russian and French citizenships. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili signed a decree depriving Ivanishvili and his wife Yekaterina Khvedelidze from Georgian citizenship. Ivanishvili had received Georgian citizenship on July 22, 2004, it was later frozen after he received the French citizenship.
