Russia to be armed with Bulava missiles

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting with high-ranking officers on Tuesday that the Bulava complex of strategic nuclear forces will be put into service.


The Bulava naval intercontinental ballistic missiles started undergoing tests in 2004. 11 out of 18 launches were successful. 2011 was the most successful year with all 4 missiles launched from the Yuri Dolgoruky atomic submarine.


The submarine launched two Bulavas on December 23, RIA Novosti reports.


Bulava is to become the basic naval missile of Russian strategic nuclear forces. New submarines are under construction with account of the new missile.
