Iran's deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs has called on Russia to play a more assertive role in the current major developments in the region, Press TV reports.
In a Monday meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian exchanged views with his counterpart on ways to adopt a constructive position on the current and emerging events in the region.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian said his visit to Moscow was to hold talks in line with the steady consultations held regularly between Iranian and Russian officials on regional and international issues.
He added that he briefed his Russian counterpart on Iran's stance on regional developments in view of the widening trend of Islamic Awakening in Middle Eastern and North African countries.
The Iranian official noted that Tehran and Moscow share a quite similar position on the current events in Syria.
