The Russian CEC has registered Vladimir Zhirinovski, LDPR leader and MP, and Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the CPRF Central Committee, as candidates for president, Interfax reports.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, leader of the United Russia party, and Sergey Mironov, leader of the Fair Russia party, were registered earlier.
Grigory Yavlinsky, leader of the Yabloko party, handed over signatures to the CEC.
Businessman Mikhail Prokhorov, former Vladivostok Mayor Victor Cherepkov, Irkutsk Governor Dmitry Mezentsev, a public figure from Orenburg Rinata Khamiyeva and leader of the unregistered party Volya, Svetlana Peunova, are independent candidates. They need at least 2 million signatures to run for president.
