Tehran urges Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to set a date and place for negotiations on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, Iranian Foreign Minister Ramin Mehmanparast said today, Interfax reports.
Iran wants the six mediators (the permanent UN Security Council members and Germany) to organize talks. However, the European Union does not plan to consider renewal of negotiations on the nuclear program in Brussels, spokesman of the European diplomatic service Michael Mann says.
Mann explained that the EU will not organize talks until Iran responds to Ashton's letter. The letter was sent last year with a request for clarifications on the purpose of the nuclear program.
