Russia has approved the renewal of Palestinian-Israeli contacts, RIA Novosti reports.
The first contacts were made in Amman, the capital of Jordan, on January 3 with Foreign Minister of Jordan Naser Jaud as a mediator. Sergey Vershinin, special envoy of the Russian Foreign Ministry for Middle East settlement and Director of the Department for the Middle East and North Africa, attended the meeting.
Successful negotiations need a constructive approach, fulfillment of obligations, development and realization of measures promoting trust, prevention of unilateral steps and provocations, the Russian ministry says.
Palestinian-Israeli dialogue was halted in September 2010 due to Israeli settlement on the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which Palestine wants as the capital of its own state.
