NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has welcomed US President Barack Obama's plans to reconsider defense strategy, RIA Novosti reports.
Obama noted that NATO has proven its efficiency in Libya. The alliance will continue rapprochement with Russia. The NATO Strategic Concept was passed at the summit in Lisbon and stresses flexibility. A new defense principle will be passed at the NATO summit in Chicago in May 2012.
Barack Obama also spoke for making the US army more mobile and advanced, reducing the number of servicemen. The Asian-Pacific and Middle East regions remain a priority. The US has interest in security and peace of Europe. Withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan can be compensated with higher security in Europe.
