Nazarbayev declines to sign law making him national leader

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev did not sign a law that gives
him national leader status, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Kazakh
telegraph agency.


The Kazakh parliament approved constitutional amendments in the middle
of May making Nazarbayev national leader. According to the amendments,
Nazarbayev can not be detained, arrested, searched, or brought to
trial for actions committed while president.
