Iran plans to organize new military drills in the Strait of Hormuz this winter, Interfax reports today.
Admiral Ali Fadavi, Commander of the Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, said that the drills would not start earlier than January 21, concluding no sooner than February 19, 2012. The drills are to demonstrate that Iran has full control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran held naval drills in the area starting in late 2011 and ending this week.
