Relations between Azerbaijan and Vatican are exemplary – Pope Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI said that Vatican relations with Azerbaijan can be a good example for other countries.

"The Vatican makes every effort to develop relations with various countries, the relations with Azerbaijan can serve as a positive example," Benedict XVI said during his annual address to the diplomatic corps accredited to the Vatican, Azerbaijani ambassador to the Vatican Elchin Amirbekov said to Trend.

According to him, Benedict XVI mentioned the agreement on the status of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan signed last year.

In July last year in the Apostolic Palace in Vaticanthe Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Dominique Mamberti and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov exchanged the documents confirming the ratification of the Agreement between Vatican and Azerbaijan.

Agreement was signed on 29 April 2011 in Baku.
